The above color coded map shows the different region settings for Blu-ray discs. Unlike DVD, Blu-ray only has three different regions. When authored, by default Blu-ray discs are set to region free, meaning that they will be playable all over the world. A Blu-ray authoring engineer can however restrict playability to certain regions.
